Major Setback for Pakistan as Finger Injury Rules Shan Masood Out of Second Test Against West Indies

Pakistan will have to cope without Shan Masood in the second and final Test against the West Indies after the experienced batter suffered a finger fracture. His absence comes as another concern for the visitors after they went behind in the opening match of the two-Test series.

Masood produced a memorable century in the first Test at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. His innings, however, was interrupted by an injury when a delivery from West Indies quick Jayden Seales struck the index finger of his left hand. Further medical examinations later revealed a fracture.

The Pakistan batter continued despite the setback, although the injury forced him to bat as low as No. 8 in the second innings. Pakistan were eventually beaten by 90 runs, handing the hosts a 1-0 advantage in the series with only one Test remaining.

The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed that Masood underwent scans and a medical evaluation following the injury. He is now receiving treatment while remaining under the care and monitoring of the team’s medical staff.

His participation in Pakistan’s upcoming Test against England is also yet to be determined. The first match of that three-Test tour is scheduled to begin in Leeds on August 19, with Masood’s availability set to depend on how well he responds to treatment and rehabilitation.

Following the conclusion of the West Indies assignment, Pakistan will travel to England for a three-match Test campaign. The tour will then continue with a five-match One-Day International series.
