Argentina vs Burkina Faso Match Back On After Flight Chaos
Argentina vs Burkina Faso Match Back On After Flight Chaos
Uncertainty over Argentina's scheduled match against Burkina Faso has eased after the African side secured a charter flight from Morocco.
Burkina Faso had been facing serious travel difficulties after their originally scheduled flight was cancelled without prior notice. The team was expected to leave Casablanca on Wednesday but remained stranded in Morocco until Saturday.
According to Argentine sports outlet TyC Sports, Burkina Faso are scheduled to arrive at Ezeiza International Airport at around 3:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, only a few hours before the match.
The players will then have to complete airport formalities and travel directly to the Monumental Stadium, leaving little time for rest after the long journey.
The unusual travel situation could make the match particularly demanding for Burkina Faso, as the team will have virtually no opportunity for a proper recovery or final preparation in Argentina before kick-off.
The uncertainty began when the team's planned flight was cancelled unexpectedly. A charter flight was eventually arranged, allowing the Burkina Faso delegation to leave Casablanca and head for Argentina.
Argentina will also face restrictions on the number of spectators for the match. Because of a sanction received during the World Cup, part of the home stadium will remain closed.
The following match against Benin is expected to have a different atmosphere, with Argentina able to play in front of a full stadium. That game is also set to carry special significance as Lionel Messi prepares for what is expected to be his final appearance for the national team.
With the travel issue resolved, Argentina vs Burkina Faso can now proceed as scheduled, although Burkina Faso will face the added challenge of playing shortly after a long and complicated journey.
