Liverpool came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday. After falling behind to a first-half goal from Keane Lewis-Potter, the visitors responded through Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak. Brentford finished the match with just nine players after two dismissals.
Lewis-Potter gave Brentford the lead in the 44th minute, heading home Igor Thiago's cross from outside the penalty area. Liverpool had started brightly, with Bahdole Bahkola missing a promising opportunity in the 20th minute after finding himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
Liverpool were awarded a penalty in the 42nd minute after Alexis Mac Allister went down in the box, but the referee overturned the decision following a VAR review.
The game turned in Liverpool's favour after Brentford were reduced to 10 men in the second half. Munoz equalised in the 67th minute, collecting a pass from Florian Wirtz before cutting inside the penalty area and finishing superbly into the far corner. The Spanish forward, who joined Liverpool from Osasuna in July, scored his second goal for the club.
Three minutes later, Liverpool took the lead. Bahkola's header set up Alexander Isak, who finished with a powerful strike in the 70th minute. The Swedish forward had missed the previous two matches with a thigh injury, making his return to the scoresheet particularly timely. It was his fifth goal of the season.
Brentford had a chance to equalise shortly afterwards, but Thiago failed to make the necessary contact with a cross in front of goal.
The hosts were reduced to nine players in stoppage time when Vitaly Janelt received a second yellow card for bringing down Liverpool's Rio Ngumoha just outside the penalty area. Bahkola later struck the crossbar, while Liverpool created further chances but could not extend their advantage.
The victory provided a response to Liverpool's previous Premier League defeat, a 3-0 loss to Manchester City. They had also beaten Austrian side LASK 6-3 in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Liverpool now have 12 points from seven league matches, with three wins and three draws, and sit fifth in the table. Manchester City lead the standings with 21 points after winning all seven of their matches.
