Solanke’s Late Header Denies Manchester United Victory at Old Trafford

Manchester United were denied a much-needed victory after Tottenham Hotspur scored a dramatic late equaliser at Old Trafford. Michael Carrick’s side were held to a 1-1 draw despite taking the lead through Bryan Mbeumo in the second half.

United were hoping to secure their second Premier League victory of the season after beating Ipswich Town in August. However, Dominic Solanke’s stoppage-time header ended those hopes.

United now have six points from six matches, with one win and three draws, leaving them 12th in the Premier League table. Tottenham, still without a league victory this season, have three points and sit 18th.

Quiet First Half

Both teams struggled to create clear-cut opportunities during a largely uneventful first half.

Tottenham came closest in the 21st minute when Savio collected a pass and delivered a low cross into the box. Mohammed Kudus controlled the ball before firing a powerful effort towards the far post, but his shot narrowly missed the target.

United also struggled to create a serious threat before the interval, with the teams going into half-time level at 0-0.

Mbeumo Breaks the Deadlock

The match became more open after the break.

In the 55th minute, United thought they had taken the lead when Youri Tielemans found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Bruno Fernandes then came close moments later, with his effort hitting the outside of the net.

Tottenham threatened again in the 68th minute when Savio unleashed a powerful effort from inside the six-yard box. Kobbie Mainoo produced an important sliding block to divert the ball behind for a corner.

Four minutes later, United finally broke the deadlock.

Matheus Cunha found Bryan Mbeumo, who controlled the ball with his first touch before turning and firing a low left-footed shot into the far corner. The Cameroon international’s finish gave United a 1-0 lead and raised hopes of a second league win.

Bentancur Sent Off

The match took another dramatic turn five minutes later.

A confrontation between Rodrigo Bentancur and Luke Shaw sparked tension between the two teams. Bentancur eventually appeared to headbutt Shaw, prompting the referee to show him a straight red card. Shaw was booked.

Tottenham were reduced to 10 men, but they continued to push forward in search of an equaliser.

Solanke Rescues Tottenham

Their persistence finally paid off in stoppage time.

Sandro Tonali delivered a floated cross into the box, and Dominic Solanke managed to get his head to the ball before losing his balance. His effort beat the United goalkeeper and found the back of the net.

The late equaliser stunned the home crowd and denied United all three points.

Tottenham held on for a valuable point despite playing the final stages with 10 men, while United were left to rue another missed opportunity to climb the Premier League table.

Manchester City remain top with 15 points from five matches, while Arsenal are second on the same number of points after six games.

For United, the result extended their frustrating start to the campaign. For Tottenham, the point could provide a much-needed boost despite their continued wait for a first league victory.
