Jasprit Bumrah Returns for New Zealand Tests as Pant and Prasidh Krishna Face Fitness Tests
Jasprit Bumrah is set to return to international cricket during India's two-match Test series against New Zealand. The fast bowler has been named in the Test squad, while wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant and pacer Prasidh Krishna have been included subject to fitness clearance. Bumrah has not been selected for the ODI series.
The first Test is scheduled to begin in Wellington on November 19. Shubman Gill will captain India in the Test series, with KL Rahul named vice-captain.
Pant sustained a side strain during the Irani Cup and consequently missed the first two unofficial Tests against New Zealand A. Although he has been included in the Test squad, his participation will depend on passing a fitness test.
Prasidh, meanwhile, has been recovering from a left hamstring strain and has spent the past two weeks undergoing rehabilitation. He has been named in the squad for the first three ODIs, but his availability will also depend on his fitness.
Several players return to India's Test squad
Sai Sudharsan, Akash Deep and Anshul Kamboj have returned to the Test squad. Mohammed Siraj and Nitish Kumar Reddy are also included, alongside Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav in the spin department.
However, Manav Suthar, who reportedly took 16 wickets in the series against Sri Lanka, has been left out.
Shreyas Iyer will captain India in the final two ODIs. Kumar Kushagra and Yash Thakur have earned their first ODI call-ups for those matches.
India's management is also looking ahead to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home early next year and the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, scheduled for October and November. Managing Bumrah's workload appears to be a priority, with the fast bowler omitted from the ODI squads.
