Harry Kane surpasses Messi in the Champions League; Ronaldo and Lewandowski are next.

Although he did not secure a win on Norwegian soil, Harry Kane reached a significant personal milestone. The English striker scored a brace in Bayern Munich's 3–3 draw against Viking in the Champions League, thereby surpassing Argentine legend Lionel Messi in a specific statistical category.

Kane has now overtaken Messi on the list of top Champions League scorers after the age of 30. The striker has netted 36 goals in 40 matches in Europe's premier club competition since turning 30, whereas Messi scored 35 goals in 48 matches after reaching that age. It was Kane's second goal against Viking that propelled him ahead of Messi on this list.

Benzema, Lewandowski, and Ronaldo Ahead

Since joining Bayern Munich in 2023, Kane has been in scintillating form in the Champions League. In terms of goals scored after the age of 30, Karim Benzema, Robert Lewandowski, and Cristiano Ronaldo are the players currently ahead of him.

On this list, Benzema has 37 goals, Lewandowski has 64, and Ronaldo has 68. Consequently, Kane needs just two more goals to surpass Benzema. However, he has a much longer way to go to overtake Lewandowski and Ronaldo.

Scoring in Nine Consecutive Matches; Ronaldo's Record in Sight

Kane has also achieved the feat of scoring in nine consecutive Champions League matches. Polish striker Robert Lewandowski and former Dutch forward Ruud van Nistelrooy share this record.

However, Ronaldo holds the top spot for consecutive scoring matches; the Portuguese superstar scored in 11 straight games in 2018. To equal that record, Kane needs to score in two more consecutive matches, and to surpass it, he must score in three consecutive games. Kane also a contender in the Ballon d'Or race

Alongside his individual records, Kane is also in the conversation for the Ballon d'Or. Last season, he scored 73 goals in 65 matches across club and international competitions. He won the German Cup in addition to the Bundesliga title. Furthermore, the striker played a pivotal role in guiding England to the World Cup semi-finals.

Kane has maintained his goal-scoring form this season as well, netting eight goals in nine matches so far. His performances for Bayern have opened up the possibility of setting new records. Having surpassed Messi, his next targets are to overtake Benzema and edge closer to Ronaldo's record for consecutive scoring matches.
